It’s no secret that Donatella Versace has always been young at heart. Her boldness and flair have been evident since her early days working alongside her brother Gianni. She’s consistently drawn inspiration from the youthful energy and carefree attitude she embodies herself—so much so that in 1989, Gianni handed her the creative reins of the Versus line, which perfectly mirrored her extravagant, sexy, rock-chic rebel spirit. For her latest resort collection, she plastered pictures from those Versus years on her moodboard, reflecting the fun and boldness she wanted to inject into the new designs.
“I love the vibrant Versace gang,” she exclaimed. “Preppy punk, a little mod, sharply tailored with acid colors and prints, slashed and layered. This is the young rebel attitude I love, with clothes worn in an entirely personal way. Take Versace and make it your own.” Keeping things simple yet striking, she offered a clean silhouette with fitted tailoring, bursts of color, a bit of fluff, and a lot of high-energy playfulness.
Classic isn’t typically a word associated with Versace, but for this resort collection, Donatella took traditional wardrobe staples and gave them a glamorous twist. Apparently, she’s currently obsessed with red. She was recently awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for her contributions to Italian culture and fashion, and she accepted the honor in a striking bright red pantsuit. In this collection, a straightforward trench coat dazzled in a luscious lipstick shade, a fitted riding jacket paired with black stirrup pants looked daring in vibrant scarlet, and a cropped boxy jacket with a matching miniskirt popped in eye-catching vermilion.
To balance the streamlined daywear, lilac shearling added a soft touch to tweed mini-suits. Meanwhile, slinky black dresses with slashes, draping, and knots were quintessentially “Versace!” Feeling playful, Donatella revisited fun archival prints like Dalmatian spots, ladybugs, and strawberries for see-through devoré slip dresses, embroidered with crystals and sequins. Small silver Medusa buttons and the iconic golden safety pins were used subtly, while patches of metal mesh peeked through frayed slashes on denim cargos—an ingenious way to introduce Versace’s signature elements to the young crowd capturing Donatella’s attention.
