At Dolce & Gabbana, it seems blondes truly do have more fun. Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have noticed a somber mood sweeping over the fashion world. “Fashion is a serious business—I get that—but maybe it’s gotten too serious,” Dolce remarked. Their vision for the spring collection was to inject some cinematic glamour, channeling iconic blondes like Marilyn Monroe, Monica Vitti, and Marlene Dietrich with platinum wigs, pin-up dresses, and structured bras. Between minimalist elegance and the bold return of bullet bras, the latter definitely stole the spotlight.
On the runway, bras were flaunted as both undergarments and fashion statements. Lingerie peeked out from beneath classic trenches or topped off balconette dresses, while some bras were integrated into the very structure of cocktail dresses and sleek jackets. A standout piece was a double-breasted satin tuxedo featuring cone-shaped cups—a complex design only a few fashion houses could pull off with such confidence.
As Dolce & Gabbana approach their brand’s 40th anniversary, they’ve been reflecting on their body of work. After last season’s homage to the tuxedo, this collection lightened things up. A soft pink sheath dress with long sleeves, modest aside from its daring bullet-bra bodice, was a nod to a youthful, smiling Marilyn Monroe. A strapless dress in baby blue captured the same ingenue spirit, while bold red rose prints against white backgrounds added an extra touch of romance.
As for the bullet bra’s resurgence? It’s already made a few red carpet appearances this year. With the “free the nipple” movement well underway, it seems padded and pointy bras are the next swing in fashion’s ever-evolving pendulum. Models descended a mirrored staircase lit like a movie set, and it wasn’t hard to imagine these glamorous dresses gracing the red carpet—or becoming the desire of countless women aiming to channel their inner starlet.
