“Lightness, peace, softness—that’s the inspiration, what we wish for.” Véronique Nichanian whisked us away to the seaside at Hermès. Her models ambled along in strappy leather sandals and cropped wide-leg pants, baring their biceps in zip-front sleeveless leather jackets and hefting “beach” bags, though the luxurious Haut à Courroies eschewed common straw or plastic. This collection’s essence lay in elevating typical beachwear, usually made from modest fabrics, with Hermès-level materials while maintaining a relaxed, easygoing spirit. Nichanian achieved this with finesse, showcasing her expertise with leather, which appeared as supple as silk on a button-down and matching neckerchief in pale lavender, one of many soft, pretty hues. Her sensibilities shone through in the shirts buttoned only to the midriff, the perfectly scooped necklines of the tank tops underneath revealing glimpses of chest, and the delicate exposure of ankles beneath high-water pants—all details that highlighted her knack for creating a languid feel.

In keeping with her vision, traditional suits were scarce; instead, Nichanian playfully reimagined tailored jackets with a naïve floral print, akin to doodles, or altered lapels to lend blazers a more casual vibe. The sheer jacket towards the end recalled the sultry collection from the previous year that captivated the fashion world. A few looks prior, she created a similar effect with a voile shirt featuring unfinished side seams, allowing the back panel to catch the breeze as the model meandered around the Palais d’Iena.

Adhering to the beachy theme, some models sported “tattoos” of a swirling harness motif, inspired by a tank top, a shorts and camp shirt set, and a fully unbuttoned button-down paired with softly pleated pants. A playful touch. For the Hermès man who takes his style seriously, there were plenty more roomy blouson shapes to entice him.
